Making payments for MasonGEO Programs

PROGRAM PAYMENTS

Students on Mason GEO study abroad programs must pay the advertised program cost in order to participate. This cost will be paid in installments. Mason students pay an application deposit + administrative fee (for exchanges and external programs) + final balance.) Deposits and Administrative Fees are made via MasonAbroad. Your final balance will be made through your Mason student account (Non-Mason applicants are advised NOT to submit their Application Deposit in their MasonAbroad application UNTIL they have received their G Number.

Please thoroughly read the instructions below.

DEPOSIT

A non-refundable Application Deposit of $200 must be received by the application deadline. This fee is paid online through the Mason Abroad application system and is included in the published program cost (except for in exchange or external programs).

Non-Mason applicants: Non-Mason applicants are advised NOT to submit their Application Deposit UNTIL they have received their G Number. Non-Mason applicants will be assigned a G Number once they have submitted the "Non-Degree Course Contract/Admission Form" found in their MasonAbroad application shortly after starting their application. Once submitted, the Office of the University Registrar will create your G Number (Note: this is a manual process and may take 7-10 business days to process). Once you have been assigned a G Number, you will receive email notification containing your G Number and follow-up instructions.

ADMINISTRATIVE FEE (Exchanges and External Programs)

A non-refundable administrative fee of $300-$500 (depending on the program type/length) must be received by March 20th. This fee is paid online through the MasonAbroad application system and is not included in the program cost.

FINAL BALANCE

The final balance payment is the difference of your Program Cost minus your paid Application Deposit (except for Exchange applicants, who pay a $200 application fee + Mason Tuition Rates)

For example: if your program's cost is $3500 and your deposit was $200 your balance payment would be $3500-$200 = $3300. Please check the brochure page for your program to confirm the total cost of your program.

Notes:

  • You can make your final payment in the Mason Bill+Payment system, even if you do not see a charge on your student account for this amount.
  • The full program cost is placed on your Mason Student Account (usually in 2 separate charges: "Global Ed Trip Fee" and "Global Ed Tuition")

FINANCIAL AID & V.A. BENEFITS

Financial Aid:
In most cases, financial aid (federal, state, institutional financial aid, scholarships, grants or loans) can be used to finance study abroad. It is the student’s responsibility to check with the Office of Financial Aid to review their financial aid package. The Office of Financial Aid is the only office that can determine your aid eligibility.

Meeting with your financial aid officer prior to applying to study abroad will help you understand if, how much, and when your aid can be used to study abroad.

Confirmation of your financial aid award may not be available until registration and billing for the term in question is final. If aid eligibility changes, or the amount of aid disbursed is lower than anticipated, students are responsible for all remaining account balances or risk late fees, holds on their accounts, and program dismissal.

To assist students in the processing of their financial aid, GEO will communicate with the Office of Financial aid those students who plan to utilize financial aid for their specific study abroad program through their application with GEO.  Please note there is no guarantee to students that their aid can be utilized for their specific study abroad program.

If you plan to use federal, state, institutional financial aid, scholarships, grants or loans to finance your study abroad you must:
  • Mark “Yes” to “Do you plan to use Financial Aid to finance your program (federal, state, institutional financial aid, scholarships, grants or loans)?” in your profile in MasonAbroad.gmu.edu.
After acceptance:
VA Benefits:
If you enroll in a Mason-Led program and plan to use VA benefits to finance study abroad, contact your program administrator at Mason-Led to request the "Intent to Use VA Benefits Form." You will complete that form with the Office of Military Services. To contact Military Services, be sure to email them directly at Military@gmu.edu. Please note, VA benefits cannot be used for Global Gateway, Exchange/Direct Enroll, or Internship programs.

The VA determines if a program is eligible to receive VA benefit payments based on the participant's VA education program. Use of benefits is dependent on type of benefit and type of program.
