Students on Internships

The Global Education Office aims to support all George Mason students in their pursuit for independent research and internship opportunities overseas. The International Research and Internship Grant will provide up to $1,800 of support to cover incidentals related to travel and living abroad. If you are an undergraduate or graduate student planning to travel overseas for anywhere from seven days to three months, the Global Education Office would like to help as you continue forward in your academic and/or professional pursuits.
This grant cannot be applied towards the program cost of any GEO-sponsored or external study abroad program.

All application submissions must be from current, degree-seeking students at George Mason University.

Grants will be awarded twice per academic year.

Students could receive up to $1800 to assist with travel incidentals including, but not limited to:

  • Airfare
  • Passport Fees
  • Hotels
  • Meals (no alcohol)
  • In-country transportation assistance

Grant recipients are required to submit receipts with their final report upon completion of their research or internship.

Submission Evaluation

All submissions will be evaluated on the following:

  • Degree to which the proposed research opportunity will support student proficiency and/or career development
  • Clear explanation of research responsibilities through the proposed trip duration
  • Any potential co-authoring or publishing opportunities

Going Global UNIV Course

Those students awarded the grant will be required to register for the "Going Global UNIV Course" offered by The Global Education Office. This is a 0-1 Mason resident credit course. The course must be completed within the same academic year of your awarded grant.

End of Research Requirements

The Trip Report must include the following information:

  • Summary of independent research or internship experience
