Build Your Own Internship: Location of Your Choice
Not seeing an internship for you below? If you have a very specific internship placement in mind or are looking through our program list and not seeing your location of choice, you still have options! You can “Build Your Own Internship,” where you research and secure your own internship while working with the GEO office to receive relevant academic credit. Students are responsible for finding this internship, housing, and travel arrangements independently, which is what differs from the existing internship placement programs that GEO offers. All students will be charged in-state tuition for this program and receive a guaranteed $250-$1000 scholarship.

Bangkok, Thailand with World Endeavors
Note: This is a particularly strong location for Engineering, with many options available.
Environmental Engineering
Government agency focused on the promotion and conservation of environmental quality in relation to pollution control, working with environmental, mechanical and civil engineering professionals to address environmental problems due to pollution, to set environmental quality standards around water and atmospheric air quality, industrial waste, and solid and hazardous waste management.
Biomedical Engineering Internship:
Biomedical engineering with a company that conducts molecular genetic testing related to oncology and reproductive medicine.
Engineering Education Internship:
Design and test products for engineering education programs, including compact steam turbines, pitot tubes, subsonic wind tunnels, and Pelton turbines.
Water Quality Engineering Internship:
Conduct water quality analysis, treatment, and pipe and valve repairs while working to provide secure, quality water supply and service coverage to all of Bangkok.
Software Engineering Internship:
PaaS provider that develops online booking systems for travel companies, working with the tech department and UX teams to create new and attractive features for clients.
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Internship:
Design mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for a variety of building and construction projects, and follow up through fieldwork.
Urban Planning and Engineering Internship:
Government agency providing urban planning, development and building control services in response to social, economic and environmental needs for sustainable development.
Berlin, Germany with CIEE
Engineering Start-Up Internship:
Intern with a small startup on new product development, testing, analysis, prototyping, and quality control.
Engineering IT Company Internship:
Intern with a small IT company and contribute to programming and user experience projects.
Buenos Aires, Argentina with Road2Argentina
Non-Profit/Social Impact Internship:
Educar y Crecer is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education for children and young people in a situation of socio-educational vulnerability. They design education programs with their own method that allows them to measure their impact and the children's learning.
Education/Social Impact Internship:
Uniendo Caminos works with kids and teenagers from low-income neighborhoods in order to enable them to finish primary and secondary school and reduce school dropout rates. The Educational Centers offer classes and tutoring in Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Math, and Language. They believe that "education is an instrument of social insertion."
Cape Town, South Africa with CIEE
Engineering Consulting Internship:
Intern in mechanical, electronic, electrical, civil, or computer engineering. Intern at a consulting company planning and controlling phases of projects according to customer's program.
Government Engineering Internship:
Work at a government entity liaising with a Quality Manager and engineering department on ISO standards and ensuring compliance.
Dublin, Ireland with World Endeavors
Civil Engineering Internship:
Engineering firm specialized in non-invasive, ground penetrating radar surveys applied to the civil engineering industry, assisting with topographical and underground projects using 3D software.
Biomedical Engineering Internship:
Biomedical engineering with an academic health science center linked with the Irish Rare Kidney Disease and Vasculitis registry and biobank, providing assistance with day-to-day running of the RKD Biobank, including processing blood samples for long term storage and harvesting white blood cells from blood samples, and ongoing research projects.
Florence, Italy with World Endeavors
Civil Engineering Internship
Structural design company designing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for a variety of building and construction projects, conducting design work using various software, and meeting with clients to check on projects throughout Tuscany.
Hua Hin, Thailand with Travelbud (Paid)
Paid TESOL/TEFL Teaching Internship:
Students will complete a 120-hour TESOL/TEFL course and are paid a stipend to teach English in local schools. Teaching placements (including grade levels) are made based on the intern's experience working with youth, school needs, and preference. Interns learn how to teach and then are supported throughout their teaching period. Students with a strong background in the Sciences or Technology could potentially teach a class in their STEM subject along with their English classes.

AI and Technology Internship:
Intern with a leading provider of research and development, consulting, and academic training services in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, neurotechnology, virtual reality, and aerospace technology.
Prague, Czech Republic with World Endeavors
Engineering Internship:
Design, production and manufacturing company specializing in CNC grinding solutions, focused on production optimization, automation and mechanical design, designing machines using Solidworks and other software.
Engineering Internship:
Company that designs large automated equipment, production lines for testing, and smaller industrial equipment, designing an ultrasonic probe and other measuring equipment in Solidworks, and building them together with technicians.
Quito, Ecuador with Universidad San Francisco de Quito
Research Internship:
Intern at Giro Limipio, completing research on different strategies that can be used to gather different logistic partners to join our project; research on different technologies to minimize CO2 emissions that can be implemented in the context of Ecuador; and developing presentations and material that can be show in the meetings and boards. Students should be familiar with D2Tableau -Python and have an Industrial or Systems Engineering background.
Engineering Internship:
Students may intern at the Observatory of Urban Transport of Cargo Otuc-Quito. Work includes: GPS data management and organization of databases; programming queries to get the correct input data for the platform; creating algorithms in Python to get file stops from a speed file; and developing visualizations of GPS data. Students should be familiar with Tableau -Python and have an Industrial or Systems Engineering background.
