Build Your Own Internship: Location of Your Choice
Not seeing an internship for you below? If you have a very specific internship placement in mind or are looking through our program list and not seeing your location of choice, you still have options! You can “Build Your Own Internship,” where you research and secure your own internship while working with the GEO office to receive relevant academic credit. Students are responsible for finding this internship, housing, and travel arrangements independently, which is what differs from the existing internship placement programs that GEO offers. All students will be charged in-state tuition for this program and receive a guaranteed $250-$1000 scholarship.

Examples of Internship Placements
Atenas, Costa Rica with World Endeavors
Sustainable Coffee Farm Internship
Local, family-run organic coffee farm located in the rural community of San Isidro de Atenas. Interns assist with all areas of coffee production, including picking, drying, toasting, packing and sales. Interns also assist with agricultural tourism activities, helping to guide tours of the farm.
Wildlife Conservation Internship
Animal rescue center for animals that have been illegally kept as pets, or illegally trafficked. Interns provide care and a healthy environment for these animals with the goal of rehabilitating them to be released back into the wild. Interns may care for sloths, monkeys, olingo, kinkajous, tapirs, big cats, and a large variety of tropical birds. Interns also increase community awareness about animal rights and the problems with keeping wild animals as pets.
Sea Turtle Conservation
Scientific based conservation activity that works to increase the number of sea turtle hatchlings to give higher survival possibilities to these reptiles. Interns assist with clearing paths, exhuming nests that have hatched, observe the hatchery, patrol the beaches and record data, assist with general infrastructure and building maintenance, count baby turtles and release them, create informational signage and assist with maintaining cleanliness of the beaches.
Bangkok, Thailand with World Endeavors
Conservation Internship:
Environmental Conservation interns work on a wide range of projects to protect habitats, study soil, air and water quality, define environmental policies, and promote conservation through community education. These placements are located outside of Bangkok and will come at an additional cost.
Environmental Conservation with Nature Reserve Internship in Chanthaburi:
Creating fishing and farming opportunities for villagers on the coast of Chanthaburi, by conserving mangrove plantations and cultivating seaweed for animal feed. The full-cycle marine ecological system of the area makes it a habitat for various species of aquatic animals, birds and insects. Interns conduct research, survey the mangroves, assist in preparing food for the aquarium, observe and report on fish health, and update scientific informational signage for guests.
Environmental Engineering Internship:
Government agency focused on the promotion and conservation of environmental quality in relation to pollution control, working with environmental, mechanical and civil engineering professionals to address environmental problems due to pollution, to set environmental quality standards around water and atmospheric air quality, industrial waste, and solid and hazardous waste management.
Berlin, Germany with CIEE
Sustainability Start-Up Internship:
Intern with a small startup focused on sustainability, for example Plan A. Contribute to research, analysis, and external communication strategies.
Environmentalism Start-Up Internship:
Intern with a small startup focused on sustainable products and product cycles, for example Zero Waste Era. Complete projects related to new product planning, research, communications strategies.
Buenos Aires, Argentina with Road2Argentina
Conservation Internship:
The Andean Condor Conservation Program (PCCA) is dedicated to protecting the largest flying bird in the world. The program manages a Rescue and Artificial Incubation Center in the ecopark of Buenos Aires and has managed to reintroduce 163 Condors in their natural habitat.
Ecology Internship:
Amigos de la Patagonia, founded in the city of San Martīn de los Andes in Patagonia, wants to ensure the preservation of the ecological equilibrium and natural landscape of Patagonia. They develop programs revolving around sustainability and environmental education and support initiatives designed to reduce the negative ecological impact of economic projects and activities in Patagonia and the rest of Argentina.
Dublin, Ireland with World Endeavors
Environmental Conservation Internship
International network of environmental groups, universities and other educational institutions that organize environmental projects around the coast of Europe. Activities include publishing research on the state of the environment, implementing educational materials to the public, and organizing volunteer projects.
Green Living Education Internship
National center for the circular economy in Ireland - a creative movement connecting people, ideas and resources to support greener low-carbon living. Interns assist in conducting school workshops onsite and externally, develop workshop materials including activity research, activity development and preparation, workbook development and presentations, prepare materials for workshops, help to manage marketing and promotional events, and generally assist with administrative tasks.
London, UK with Anglo Education Services
Consulting Internship:
A sustainability internship with a sustainability strategy consultancy. The intern can expect to get involved with differing tasks depending on what projects they have on at the time. Previous interns have been assisted with a consultancy project focusing on carbon emissions in the aviation industry, as well as attending client meetings and writing up reports.
Sustainability Non-Profit Internship:
An internship with an environmental education charity exploring complex issues of sustainability. The intern can expect to get involved with support sessions in the local community, creating promotional resources and prepping for educational workshops.

Energy Efficiency Internship
Organization striving to help people out of energy poverty and training administrations in energy efficiency.
Mumbai, India with CRCC Asia
Sustainable Integration Internship:
Support an organization that helps companies integrate paperless billing software across sectors to create a more environmentally conscious commerce space in Mumbai.

Green Energy Internship:
Intern and support the work of an energy storage system developer and manufacturer to produce green energy.
Paris, France with World Endeavors
Environmental Law Internship
Environmental and public law firm with expertise in biodiversity and resources, climate, energy law, environmental criminal law, environmental health, industrial environment, public business law, private business law, and urban planning and development. Minimum B2 French level required.

International Business and Development Internship for Renewable Energy Consulting Company:
Join this dynamic team in promoting environmentally-sound and socially-beneficial products and services. Work alongside experienced project managers to bring energy to remote areas with little access. Tasks can include sales and marketing, logistics for international exports, and conducting market and regulatory research in a variety of areas including energy, infrastructure and pharmaceuticals.
Urban Garden Internship:
A previous intern worked in an urban garden, alongside locals who grew their own food and provided agricultural education and sustainability classes to local children.

Support the efforts of a company that specializes in the creation of a solar energy platform that brings clean energy solutions to underserved African businesses and communities.
Sydney, Australia with World Endeavors
Environmental Marketing Internship:
Interns work with an energy services company that has been a leading innovator in energy and water efficiency services for over 15 years. The company designs bespoke efficiency solutions as fixed price proposals with guaranteed results, achieving up to 50% in energy savings. The intern will be learning from and assisting the Marketing Manager and the Sales & Marketing team on the following tasks: Conducting Market Research (online); Competitor Analysis; Target Audience Profiling; Assistance with Marketing Campaigns; SEO Keyword Research; Case Study development; marketing collateral development and copywriting.
Additional Tasks:
- Plan and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns.
- Gather industry, consumer and competitor data synthesize data into intelligence and meaningful insights.

Sustainable Events Internship:
Interns work with a company that is leading the end of single-use packaging in our lifetime. The organization builds technology-enabled systems that produce reusable products that are trackable and can be linked back to their factories to be washed and reused.
Potential Tasks:
