Build Your Own Internship - Location of Your Choice
Not seeing an internship for you below? If you have a very specific internship placement in mind or are looking through our program list and not seeing your location of choice, you still have options! You can “ Build Your Own Internship ,” where you research and secure your own internship while working with the GEO office to receive relevant academic credit. Students are responsible for finding this internship, housing, and travel arrangements independently, which is what differs from the existing internship placement programs that GEO offers. All students will be charged in-state tuition for this program and receive a guaranteed $250-$1000 scholarship.

Museum and Cultural Management Internship — Florence, Italy
Support heritage preservation and museum practices at a museum or historical site in Italy, collaborating with professionals across curation, archiving, and conservation work. This placement suits students interested in arts/museums/galleries, historical/archival research, or creative arts and design.
Tasks and responsibilities may include:
- Conducting research and contributing to curation of artifacts and exhibitions
- Assisting with archiving, cataloging, and preserving historical collections
- Engaging in analysis and restoration projects to conserve cultural treasures
- Participating in administrative tasks supporting museum operations
- Supporting visitor engagement initiatives
Museum & Cultural Management Internship at Renaissance-era History Museum — Florence, Italy
Support daily museum operations and a historic library cataloging project at a Renaissance-era history museum, gaining hands-on exposure to museum management and archival work. This placement suits students interested in arts/museums/galleries, historical/archival research, or creative arts and design.
Tasks and responsibilities may include:
- Supporting the museum's daily operations and visitor-facing activities
- Observing and assisting with the selection, cataloging, and archiving of a historic library collection
- Assisting with general administrative tasks tied to museum management
- Gaining exposure to how a historic house museum preserves and presents its collection
- Learning about heritage preservation in a Renaissance-era setting

Archival Internship
An archival internship with the world's longest-established scholarly association dedicated to the furtherance of anthropology (the study of humankind) in its broadest and most inclusive sense. An intern can expect to get involved with creating and updating the archive catalogue, assisting with film negatives, and putting the correct paper on glass negatives for archiving.

Support the day-to-day functions of a prominent art museum in Prague, gaining hands-on experience across digitization, tours, and marketing. This placement suits students interested in arts/museums/galleries, historical/archival research, or advertising, marketing, and PR.
Tasks and responsibilities may include:
- Digitizing museum items and collections
- Assisting in guiding tours for visitors
- Creating and organizing marketing materials
- Supporting other museum operations as assigned
- Gaining hands-on exposure to daily museum functions
