Build Your Own Internship - Location of Your Choice
Not seeing an internship for you below? If you have a very specific internship placement in mind or are looking through our program list and not seeing your location of choice, you still have options! You can “ Build Your Own Internship ,” where you research and secure your own internship while working with the GEO office to receive relevant academic credit. Students are responsible for finding this internship, housing, and travel arrangements independently, which is what differs from the existing internship placement programs that GEO offers. All students will be charged in-state tuition for this program and receive a guaranteed $250-$1000 scholarship.
Atenas, Costa Rica with World Endeavors
Environmental Conservation & Eco-Tourism Internship — Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica
Support conservation and eco-tourism operations at a wildlife reserve on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, gaining hands-on experience in plant research and community-based conservation work. This placement suits students interested in environmentalism and sustainability, agriculture and ecology, or chemistry/biology.
Tasks and responsibilities may include:
- Learning about and assisting with research on the reserve's plants, specifically orchids
- Helping reserve staff with duties in the kitchen and guest rooms
- Assisting the tour guide team with welcoming and guiding visitors
- Contributing to daily operational support of the reserve

Bangkok, Thailand with World Endeavors
Tourism Management Internship with Adventure Park Company:
Welcome to this established, growing tourism company with adventure ropes courses in four locations throughout Thailand. Study and understand the company's business platforms, focusing on safety standards, to design communication channels with inbound European target customers. Assist in developing a risk assessment of upcountry locations and approaching potential travel agencies for business development. Work with the team to develop marketing strategy and collateral and manage social media campaigns.
