Build Your Own Internship: Location of Your Choice 

Not seeing an internship for you below? If you have a very specific internship placement in mind or are looking through our program list and not seeing your location of choice, you still have options! You can “Build Your Own Internship,” where you research and secure your own internship while working with the GEO office to receive relevant academic credit. Students are responsible for finding this internship, housing, and travel arrangements independently, which is what differs from the existing internship placement programs that GEO offers. All students will be charged in-state tuition for this program and receive a guaranteed $250-$1000 scholarship.

Atenas, Costa Rica with World Endeavors

 

Social Services and Community Development Internship:
Join the team at a dynamic non-profit organization that provides services to vulnerable women and children, and low-income men and women over 60. The organization strives to improve the quality of life of those living in need by providing food, education and guidance, and promoting the social well-being of the community and its most marginalized members. This organization provides nutrition, psychological support to youth, job training for women, physical and spiritual development for youth, and academic assistance to university and high school students. 

Occupational Therapy Internship at an Elderly Care Facility:
Join the welcoming team at an elderly care facility where you will assist with OT sessions along with daily health and wellness routines. Interns also gain experience with a wide range of therapeutic techniques, in addition to OT.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy Internship:
Intern with an organization that provides therapies and early interventions for children with developmental delays - regardless of their income. This clinic uses play as the main vehicle for teaching. Interns have exposure to other therapies like physical therapy and speech/language therapy to get a big picture view of developmental interventions.
 

 

Berlin, Germany with CIEE  

 

Digital Health Startup Internship:
Intern with a digital health startup focused on the brain and/or access to mental health care through technology. Contribute to research and analysis projects.

Marketing Firm Internship:
Intern with a marketing firm to conduct consumer psychology focus groups.

Note: Clinical healthcare opportunities are not available in Berlin. Primarily only NGO or digital health tech work is available.
 

 

Buenos Aires with Road2Argentina

 

Internship with Mensajeros de la Paz:
Mensajeros de la Paz is a global social organization that aims to improve the quality of life of the most disadvantaged people (children, youth and seniors). It works for the social inclusion of vulnerable people, implementing integral care projects (such as community centers) aimed at recovering their rights.

Internship with The Argentine Aphasia Foundation:
The Argentine Aphasia Foundation (Fundafasia) provides assistance and support to people with aphasia, who suffer from a language and communication disorder, caused by a brain injury. The foundation helps them reach the greatest autonomy and the best quality of life possible. It offers a Rehabilitation Center and a Day Center that promote the patient's reintegration into the labor market and work to gain new scientific knowledge about the disorder.
 

 

Cape Town, South Africa with CIEE

 

Rehabilitation Clinic Support Internship:
Intern at a rehabilitation clinic supporting group work and psychoeducation sessions for students/young adults.


Research Internship:
Interns will work at a research institution or education department collecting, verifying, and reporting data.


 

Dublin, Ireland with World Endeavors

Pediatric Hippotherapy Internship:

Join a wonderful organization providing therapy services for children and young adults with sight loss, autism, and other disabilities. Clients involved in the Equine Assisted Therapy program care for horses and engage in therapy-based activities to enhance their physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral and educational skills. Interns work closely with the clients, their care teams and the horses, assisting with:

-Sensory preparation - helping clients prepare the horses for riding sessions

-Horseback riding sessions - guiding clients through therapeutic activities and exercises on horseback

-Grooming - assisting clients as they care for the horses following the riding sessions

 

 

Florence, Italy with World Endeavors

 

Public Health Internship:

International humanitarian organization dedicated to preventing and alleviating human suffering, and contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world. Intern responsibilities are varied, but past interns have assessed the health of the homeless population and determined needs alongside local professionals, interacted with patients seeking care, participated in weekly rounds at the community health clinic and assisted in delivering health education and health promotion information.

 

Pscyho-social Rehabilitation, OT Internship:

NGO that deals with the psycho-social integration of people suffering or who have suffered from mental or psychological distress through the creation of a shared space, open to all, in which there is a real breaking down of the stigma surrounding mental health. Opportunities are provided for fun, socialization, well-being, culture, rehabilitation, training and information. Services provided include group therapy with professionals and peers, art therapy laboratories, socio-rehabilitation activities, social-work placements, training internships, and integration and social reintegration activities. Interns work in partnership with the management team in the psycho-social rehabilitation of clients by assisting with occupational therapy sessions within the structures of the association, mainly through group sessions, art therapy, and empowerment through employment training programs, which include a number of local restaurants as well as a beach club and resort with facilities accessible to people with disabilities.

 

Mental and Physical Health Services Internship:

Research and clinical center focused on studying the epidemiology of mental and physical disorders, the symptomatic presentations, the effectiveness of therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation, and providing services for people with intellectual disabilities.

 

 

London, UK with Anglo Educational Services

 

Psychology Internship with a Mental Health Clinic:
The intern can expect to get involved with patient consultations, writing blog posts about mental health and generally learning about the administration of the clinic.
 
Psychology Organization Internship:
A psychology-based internship with a citywide movement to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Londoners. The intern can expect to get involved with their suicide prevention team, facilitating multi-agency networks, developing a citywide sharing hub and delivering suicide prevention training to schools and universities in London.
 

 

Madrid, Spain with World Endeavors

NGO Internship with Various Therapies:

Guided by professionals, interns gain valuable experience with multiple therapies like OT, PT, and speech/language at an NGO that supports patients with disabilities.

 

Various Therapies in Geriatrics Internship:

Interns work with a geriatric population in a residential care home where OT, PT, and speech/language therapy sessions are facilitated with residents.

 

Social Integration Internship:

Organization supporting social reintegration for individuals affected by brain injury and their families. Interns arrange occupational workshops and activities, provide guidance and counseling, assist with assessing and treating cognitive alterations and work with individuals to improve or maintain their ability to perform meaningful daily activities. B2 minimum Spanish required.

 

 

Rabat, Morocco with World Endeavors

 

Nonprofit Management Internship with Education Foundation:
Passionate about innovative social enterprises and effective educational opportunities? We have the placement for you! This organization offers fun, alternative educational opportunities supported by new technology and personalized to the needs of each child. Contemporary, warm and friendly, this educational and cultural center serves a large number of households and offers a diverse multitude of services. Intern responsibilities include managing the website and social media channels, editing documents, conducting workshops with the children, and planning and marketing events. 

NGO for Migrant and Refugee Services Internship:
Share your time and talents with an NGO that works to address the challenges faced by migrants, refugees and disadvantaged youth. In an effort to protect diversity and promote the value of all cultures, this organization provides opportunities for dialogue between the many different people inhabiting Morocco together. They work to promote integration of underprivileged Moroccans, Sub-Saharan migrants and refugees within Moroccan society, as well as to promote and facilitate migrants' voluntary return to their home countries. The organization has a reception center for sub-Saharan migrants, Syrians and other migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, where they offer psychological, pedagogical and social assistance and support. They also strive to provide protection and assistance to the most vulnerable people, including unaccompanied children, people with disabilities and women at risk.

 

 

Sydney, Australia with World Endeavors

 

Psychology and Occupational Therapy Internship: 

Pediatrics - school for children with disabilities. Gain valuable experience assisting at an elementary school for students with developmental disabilities, learning from teachers as they work with students. Interns also work one-on-one with students and support some developmental goals, like improving fine motor skills. There is not an occupational therapist working full-time on-site, but licensed OTs are brought in from time-to-time upon request and based on funding availability. Interns will be supervised by the school teachers, and not a licensed occupational therapist in most cases.

Social Work Internship: 

Past Social Work interns have worked with older adults, following up on client concerns, joining the social worker on home visits, updating client records, attending day center for direct contact with clients, accompanying clients from the day center to medical appointments, and assisting with implementing activities and outings.
