Build Your Own Internship: Location of Your Choice 

Not seeing an internship for you below? If you have a very specific internship placement in mind or are looking through our program list and not seeing your location of choice, you still have options! You can “Build Your Own Internship,” where you research and secure your own internship while working with the GEO office to receive relevant academic credit. Students are responsible for finding this internship, housing, and travel arrangements independently, which is what differs from the existing internship placement programs that GEO offers. All students will be charged in-state tuition for this program and receive a guaranteed $250-$1000 scholarship.

Examples of Internship Placements 

Accra, Ghana with World Endeavors

Teaching Art and Design Internship: 

Assist in the administration of art clubs in local schools, using a variety of different mediums. Share your own artistic talents with local Ghanaian children before switching roles to become a student and learning from local Ghanaian artisans. Interns typically can select their preferred age group, create their own syllabus, and decide on goals for the classes, ending in an exhibition to showcase the students' artwork. This enriching experience helps students gain confidence in their skills and abilities, and encourages them to pursue their artistic dreams. In addition to teaching art, interns can also experience local art and learn from local artisans who are creating a diverse range of art and design pieces - from batik on clothing and scarves to jewelry design, painting, photography, screen printing, sculpture, and wood carving.

Teaching Internship: 

Interns teach Math, English, History, Science, and Foreign Languages at schools in Accra. In addition to regular classroom instruction, interns are encouraged to present their own ideas and participate in extracurricular activities such as art and design, drama, music, sports, or the publication of a school newspaper. Internships are typically with primary and junior high school classes.  â€‹â€‹

 

Atenas, Costa Rica with World Endeavors 

 

Teaching at a Montessori Nursery and School: 

Interns have been placed with a Montessori nursery and school for children from 6 months to 6 years old. Interns organize activities, sports, and educational games in English and Spanish, and assist teachers in the classroom.

 

Teaching Internship at a Private Bilingual School:

Join a small, private, bilingual (English and Spanish) school in Atenas that has programs for preschool, elementary and high school students. Interns work closely with the teachers, assisting with lesson planning, facilitating activities, tutoring students, and leading the classroom teaching lessons.


Bangkok, Thailand with World Endeavors 

 

Teaching Internship:

Teaching interns provide increased educational opportunities for children and adults in communities around the world. Interns will provide classroom instruction in English and other subjects, and may also do small-group or individual tutoring outside class. Most teaching interns work in primary or secondary schools, though some opportunities are available with adults as well. Some interns begin their placement by assisting in a classroom, and then gradually take over responsibility for teaching a lesson or a whole class. Other interns assume responsibility for their own classrooms from the beginning of their placements. Interns can develop and implement creative lesson plans and lead after-school activities such as art, music, theater, sports, or gardening.
 

Berlin, Germany with CIEE 

 

Assistant English Teacher Internship:
Interns will work at a local school assisting English teachers by in offering academic support to learners with academic challenges.

Assistant Staff Internship:
Interns will work at a local language school assisting staff as a teacher's assistant.

Note: Language expertise might make this a more feasible field in Berlin. Teaching options are limited due to the academic calendar here.
 

 

Buenos Aires, Argentina with Road2Argentina 

 

Teaching Internship with the Springfield School of English:
The Springfield School of English is located in the quiet neighborhood of Ciudadela and offers courses of English for children and teenagers who attend lessons twice a week. Workshops are organized once or twice a month by the teachers working at the institute and consist of activities such as cooking, dancing, art work, music, games, puppet shows, story-telling.
 
Teaching Internship with LIFE:
LIFE is a non-profit organization that coordinates after-school activities for children from one of Buenos Aires's largest villas, Ciudad Oculta. They collaborate with community centers and soup kitchens. They also work in the Guaraní indigenous village of Perutí in the Misiones province of Argentina.
 

 

Cape Town, South Africa with CIEE

 

Teaching Assistant Internship:
Interns will work at a local school assisting teachers and offer academic support to learners with academic challenges.

Educational Non-Profit Internship:
Intern at a local non-profit developing and implementing activities for after school programs.

 

 

Hua Hin, Thailand with Travelbud (Paid):    

 

Paid English Teaching Internship:

Students will complete a 120 hour TESOL/TEFL course and teach English in local schools. Teaching placements (including grade levels) are made based on the intern's experience working with youth, school needs, and preference. Interns learn how to teach and then are supported throughout their teaching period. 
 

 

Incheon, South Korea with Travelbud

 

English Teaching Internship:

Students will complete a 120 hour TESOL/TEFL course and teach English in local schools. Teaching placements (including grade levels) are made based on the intern's experience working with youth, school needs, and preference. Interns learn how to teach and then are supported throughout their teaching period.

 

 

Nagoya, Japan with Travelbud

 

English Teaching Internship:

Students will complete a 120 hour TESOL/TEFL course and teach English in local schools. Teaching placements (including grade levels) are made based on the intern's experience working with youth, school needs, and preference. Interns learn how to teach and then are supported throughout their teaching period.


Prague, Czech Republic with World Endeavors 

 

Teaching Internship:

Placements are available in eco-schools and environmental education centers.
 

 

Rabat, Morocco with World Endeavors

Most teaching interns work in primary or secondary schools, though some opportunities are available with adults as well. Interns can develop and implement creative lesson plans and lead after-school activities such as art, music, theater, sports, or gardening.

Placements are available with vulnerable populations, immigrants, and learners with special needs.
 

 

Quito, Ecuador with USFQ

 

Support Assistant Internship:
Intern as the support assistant in a 3 year old class at Guardería TEL. Students should have experience working with early childhood children and a background related to education or psychology.

 

 

Sydney, Australia with World Endeavors

Education/Youth Development Internship:

Public school education - Join a vibrant and diverse public school with students from many different cultures all over the world. Many of the students are 1st generation Australians with English as their second language. There are numerous extracurricular activities offered including film club, debate, public speaking, reading club, computer club and sports activities. The staff and teachers range from beginner teachers in their first year to the experienced teacher with 30+ years on the job. The school offers an incredible language program with 8 different languages taught throughout the school. Training and learning outcomes for the intern includes:
o    Implementing individual education programs in the classroom for students with identified learning needs
o    Planning for programming, excursions and professional learning
o    Weekly professional learning opportunities
o    Exposure to K-6 teaching throughout the school 
o    Opportunity to work in one of the 12 language-based classrooms

 

Education/Youth Development Internship: Primary School Education:

This primary school provides quality education in a caring environment, developing the academic, cultural, physical and social potential of each child and encouraging children to become self-motivated individuals, who strive for excellence, developing independence and co-operation. Many of the students are from non-English speaking backgrounds, and the school offers two community language programs, Greek and Chinese. The supportive community and dedicated staff make this placement a great environment for interns to receive a well-rounded experience of the Australian education system, while supporting teachers in the classroom and throughout daily school life. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
