GEO has partnered with JLA to come up with a robust and stimulating program for Arabic language students. In addition to its intensive 8-week summer immersion program consisting of 170 contact hours, it includes virtual clubs, virtual excursions, and many other virtual learning activities in order to keep our students safe and interested. Some of these activities include cultural programs, guest speakers, and clubs.
The cultural program includes Arabic literature, calligraphy, archaeology of Jordan, Arabic society, Arabic media, Arabic music, Middle East political issues, Arabic culture (traditions, customs, costumes, and Arabic cooking). Advanced programs include language, culture, clubs, and basic courses in translation and interpretation.
The speakers program includes well-known distinguished people in many cultural fields.
JLA offers a range of optional full and half-day virtual excursions to nearby archaeological sites, natural treasures of Jordan, and cultural activities and events. The professors, specialized tour guides, or archaeologists will accompany the students on their tours. Students are encouraged to practice their Arabic during these excursions. Tours are usually conducted on weekends.

Students on MasonGEO virtual programs must pay the advertised program cost in order to participate. This cost will be made in two payments (Deposit + Final Payment). Students planning on using financial aid should contact their Financial Aid Counselor if they plan to use aid.
Application Deposit: A non-refundable program deposit $200 must be received by the application deadline. This fee is paid online through the MasonAbroad application system and is included in the program cost.
Final Payment: The final balance payment is due by May 10th. This is the difference of your Program Cost minus the $200 you've already paid (Deposit). Students who are using financial aid will need to contact the Financial Aid Office upon applying for the program.
Financial Aid and VA Benefits: Students who intend to use financial aid or VA benefits to fund their program fees (partially or in full) must have the "Intent to Use Financial Aid" or "Intent to Use VA Benefits Form" completed and on file with the Global Education Office by the First Payment deadline. The Office of Financial Aid is unable to assess if a student will have aid available for summer until mid to late February. The "Intent to Use Financial Aid" and "Intent to Use VA Benefits" forms are available in the MasonAbroad application system once the office of financial aid can review aid for this program.
* Students must be enrolled at least half-time for federal loans and the majority of grant funds. Please refer to the Financial Aid Website for a definition of half-time for undergraduate and graduate students: https://www2.gmu.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/eligibility.
